From planning to coordination of pick-up and delivery, the\u00a0<strong>logistics<\/strong>\u00a0dispatcher must not only deal with\u00a0<strong>logistics<\/strong>\u00a0teams (drivers, warehouse managers, etc.), but also with customers whilst respecting constraints and demands (cost, flow optimization, customer satisfaction, etc.).<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Logistics dispatcher: tasks and responsibilities<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>To sum it up in a few words, we could say that it is: \u201ccoordinating drivers\u2019 activities in order to maximize transport and customer service\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The main functions of\u00a0<strong>logistics<\/strong>\u00a0dispatcher are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Planning and dispatching pick-up and delivery;<\/li>\n<li>Stock management if necessary;<\/li>\n<li>Organization of timetables and travel\u00a0;<\/li>\n<li>Transmission of guidelines to drivers (instructions, documents, etc.);<\/li>\n<li>Communication with customers;<\/li>\n<li>Control of vehicle \/drivers\u2019 travel in relation to external constraints (roadworks, weather conditions, etc.);<\/li>\n<li>Inclusion of regulatory elements (driving time, prohibited traffic times, etc.);<\/li>\n<li>Coordination of relations between the client, the supplier and the driver;<\/li>\n<li>Minimization of drivers\u2019 waiting time;<\/li>\n<li>Optimization and synchronization of transport operations;<\/li>\n<li>Trouble-shooting;<\/li>\n<li>Cost control;<\/li>\n<li>Administrative management (reports, etc.);<\/li>\n<li>Pricing negotiation;<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge of regulations in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.econonord.com\/en\/road-transport-saint-jerome-quebec\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">transport of goods<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This is a non-exclusive list because, in reality, the\u00a0<strong>logistics<\/strong>\u00a0dispatcher\u2019s job includes a great many tasks which may vary from one company to another.<\/p>\n<p>To help you to get an idea of the profession, here are two documentaries on the\u00a0<strong>logistics<\/strong>\u00a0dispatcher in two different fields of activity: one in a\u00a0<u><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=pGG1CTwIKP4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">road transport company\u00a0<\/a><\/u>and the other in\u00a0<u><a href=\"http:\/\/www.forces.ca\/en\/job\/traffictechnician-88\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the army<\/a><\/u>.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Training to become a logistics dispatcher<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>A high school diploma is generally required in the job offers. There are D.E.P. (dipl\u00f4me d\u2019\u00e9tudes professionnelles), A.E.C (attestation d\u2019\u00e9tudes coll\u00e9giales) or D.E.C (dipl\u00f4me d\u2019\u00e9tudes coll\u00e9giales) and some certificates:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>C road transport management;<\/li>\n<li>C goods dispatching in road transport;<\/li>\n<li>C\u00a0transport\u00a0<strong>logistics<\/strong>;<\/li>\n<li>C transport\u00a0<strong>logistics<\/strong>\u00a0techniques;<\/li>\n<li>C-Baccalaur\u00e9at in transport\u00a0<strong>logistics<\/strong>\u00a0techniques\/<strong>logistics<\/strong>\u00a0management;<\/li>\n<li>Certificate in management of operations and\u00a0<strong>logistics<\/strong>;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>to only mention a few.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Additional knowledge<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>It is generally necessary to be bilingual because the\u00a0<strong>logistics<\/strong>\u00a0dispatcher must communicate with both French-speaking and English-speaking players (drivers, customers, etc.).
